Every Monday through Thursday at 5:30 pm my wife goes through an interesting ritual. No its not in the service of god, or in her rational-self interest, nothing like that. This ritual is for the city of Buffalo. At 5:30 pm Monday-Thursday she leaves the house and moves our car from one side of the street to the other side of the street. You see, there is a little sign on our block that states to the effect that you can not park on this side of the street through 6pm-6am Monday-Thursday.

The reason for this procedure (which is city wide) is so the plow trucks can get through in advent of a storm. Now, there are many misnomers about the city of Buffalo especially in regardless to our weather. The city of Buffalo has a reputation for very heavy snowstorms. I have been living here for two years now, and my wife has lived here her entire life. When I actually see such before mentioned snowstorms I will let you now. To date I have only seen one and that was scarcely 5 inches. As I write now there is no snow on the ground and only a little rain. The reputation Buffalo gets for snow is mostly found in the southern parts of the city. Which I am no where close too. The second misnomer about the city of Buffalo is that we have snow plows. I have barely seen any at all, and most of the non-main roads seem to go the whole winter without ever being plowed.

However, this silly rule is still applied. Everyone must move there car over before 6 pm or risk getting a ticket. This is a very likely event. Buffalo might not be able to plow its roads, but if you break a parking rule, you will definitely get a ticket. Rain or shine, summer or winter, your car must still be moved before 6 pm. So I asked myself why this was so.

Why would this city be so determined to have us all move our cars, if they never have any urge at all of plowing the roads? Then it hit me; there getting the money. The more tickets they give out the more money that they will make. No wonder they spend so much effort in giving us tickets. So that’s the problem, here is the solution:

Every citizen that has no police record for a certain period of time; let us say 10 years, should be entered into a state lottery. The nature of the lottery is that all the money that was brought in that year by the police in terms of parking fines, movement violations, seized drug money, etc. should go into the pot. People without a police record will be placed in the lottery and drawing will be down via social security numbers. Enough winners should be picked every year to ensure that everyone will win (if there law abiding) at least once in their lifetime.

American and Israeli scientists have cloned a wild wheat gene that they say boosts the protein, iron and zinc content in the grain. The discovery might even help ease nutritional deficiencies affecting millions of children worldwide, they say.

"Wheat is one of the world's major crops, providing approximately one-fifth of all calories consumed by humans, therefore, even small increases in wheat's nutritional value may help decrease deficiencies in protein and key micronutrients," research leader Professor Jorge Dubcovsky, of the University of California, Davis, said in a prepared statement.

The gene, GPC-B1, accelerated grain maturity and resulted in a 10 percent to 15 percent increased protein and micronutrient content in wheat varieties tested so far by the scientists.

The findings appear in the Nov. 24 issue of Science.

More than 2 billion people worldwide are deficient in zinc and iron, and more than 160 million children younger than 5 don't get enough protein, according to the World Health Organization.

Witnesses said the black policeman opened fire late Thursday on a mob of fans from the French first division side Paris Saint Germain who were chasing a Jewish supporter of the Israeli team Hapoel Tel Aviv.

"It seems like quite serious racist insults were used such as 'Dirty n****r' and 'dirty Jew'," Paris Prosecutor Jean-Claude Marin told reporters.

Witnesses said he shouted "police, police" before opening fire, killing 25-year-old Julien Quemener and injuring Mounir Bouchaer, 26.

"The most likely assumption is that the same bullet injured Bouchaer, passing through his lung, before hitting Quemener in the heart," Marin said.

Police said the PSG fans appeared to be far-right sympathisers and were chanting "France for the French" as they confronted the Hapoel supporter.

PSG has struggled for years to control a hard core group of hooligans, with far-right tendencies.

The team received an angry reaction in Sderot in southern Israel Tuesday, just after Palestinian militants from the nearby Gaza Strip fired rockets into the town.

A worker at a chicken slaughtering plant was critically wounded in the attack.

WASHINGTON: New technology such as alcohol-detecting devices in cars may hold the key to eliminating drunken driving, the activist group Mothers Against Drunk Driving assert in a campaign started Monday.

The organization and the U.S. Department of Transportation are pushing for such devices as well as tougher enforcement around the country.

"If we can't stop drunks from driving, we'll stop vehicles from driving drunks," said Glynn Birch, president of MADD, at a news conference. Birch said technology, along with tougher laws and enforcement, has put the elimination of drunken driving "at our fingertips."

The organization wants states to pass laws that would require breath-test interlock devices in vehicles for all those who have been convicted of drunken driving — even after the first offense. Only New Mexico has such a law for first offenders; 45 states and the District of Columbia allow the device for some offenders.

I could then go on to say that several states including the United states have publically stated that international law would only be enforced as longas they ratify it. I could cite legal precedence where the supreme court has given immunity to all american soliders from the international criminal court. I could also point out that the countries with the worst human right's records in the world sit on those courts. Like i said I could say all of that but i wont.

Iinstead I will say that any goverment that is not democratically electied, that has no army, has no real legal structure has neither the moral authority or the right to impose its beliefs on citizens of other countries.

The UN delegates are not elected, the UN staff is appointed, if they had any real power at all every student of poltical science would identify them as a dictatorship. The UN doesnt not have the moral imperative, the authority, or the consent to pass or enfore any rulings whatsoever.

Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Participants in a gathering of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) in Paris on Sunday were treated to the disturbing news that anti-Semitic incidents in Europe had more than doubled in recent months.

The AFP reported that a survey compiled by the European Jewish Congress showed a drastic rise in acts of violence and expressions of hatred against Jews in 25 European nations following Israel's war with Hezbollah last summer.

The survey noted that anti-Semitism on the continent had progressed from random street violence to a general atmosphere of hatred against local Jews.

Tel Aviv University Professor Dina Porat warned that for the first time since World War II, anti-Semitism had "entered moderate opinion" in mainstream Europe.

Organizers of the conference also drew a connection between the rising antisemitism and statements by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad questioning the veracity of the Nazi Holocaust and advocating the destruction of Israel.

Meanwhile in New York, police statistics published by The New York Post on Monday showed a 28 percent increase in anti-Semitic incidents in America's largest city.

Anti-Defamation League Spokesman Joel Levy said the rising numbers could be the result of more local Jews being willing to come forward about verbal and physical attacks than in the past.

"The police are going into communities and making them feel more comfortable, so people who used to be nervous about coming forward and reporting a crime are now coming forward," said Levy.

Nevertheless, Jewish Agency Chairman Zeev Bielski told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that even if anti-Semitic attacks are not on the rise, Jews have no long-term future in the United States.

The government has launched a new sexual health campaign in an attempt to encourage young people to carry condoms while 'on the pull'.

A wave of TV, radio and magazine advertisements targeting those aged between 18 and 24 is set to begin later this month, in an effort to convince young adults that they should always carry condoms around – just in case.

'This is not about encouraging promiscuity, but saying to those who are already sexually active: sex without a condom is seriously risky, so always use one,' public health minister Caroline Flint explained.

The democratic process went through without a single reported problem here in buffalo. Sadly, everyone (except me and my wife) voted wrong. Well, at least there wasnt any rioting or anything. Got to say those women at the polls were very nice too us. Only other thing I got to complain about is the ballot propositions I couldnt make heads or tails out of either of them so I asked the poll women. She said it had to do with the precedure of how a mid-term election would be cared out. She then clearified this by saying how she wasnt sure if that was true ether. So I then asked her which one she was talking about since there were two on the ballot. She replied that she had no idea.

As you can see I was in a bit of a jam. So I voted them both down. My reasoning was that things are running pretty well right now and any new law was a risk. Being in which I have no real idea what these new laws were supposed to do I better play it safe and vote no on both of them. I wonder if our congress people do this sometimes?

Over the recent years the Israelis in particular and Jews in general have felt the icy grip of antisemitism at there throats once more. Whether it is innocent civilians being attacked by suicide bombers, the rising number of attacks in European nations, or the vicious hatred of those in academy to everything Israeli related. To be attacked and hated by the uneducated and the desperate is understandable, not forgivable but sadly predictable. To be attacked by the educated; the ones that should know better is unforgivable. The display of a leading intellectual figure with a man dressed as an enemy of western civilization and humanity as a whole is unbearably painful to many of us.

Perhaps the handling of this situation is getting out of hand, but I urge you to please remember why people are reacting in this way. Intellectuals are the bodyguards of our civilization and too see a member of an educational institution siding in an way with such desperate mob like forces is a heart wrenching. I am asking you to please due all in your power to distance your self from those that wish to harm and destroy what this country and the west as a whole has built over centuries.

So there has now come a time for a new ideology to arise in the world. Sadly this time it has almost no counter-balance. This new ideology is called environmentalism. Environmentalism fulfills all the major qualities of a typical system of thought. With everything from a metaphysics system, an epistemology structure, a code of general conduct, a sense of life, and a direct moral plan of action.

Because this is the world’s new ideology we can conclude that it must demand more of the populace then the previous ones. Which in fact it does. No system of thought in the history of the world has been more rigid and demanding on its adherents then environmentalism.

Any compromise between reasonable man is sure to give the man who is most passionate about a certain demand exactly what is desired, at the same time it is a much easier banner to rally around a cause then a lack of need for one. So gradually monotheistic religions took over the Mediterranean world.

As time progressed a new ideology was bound to arise. To succeed it must like the one before it demand more of the populace time and effort in order to survive. This new ideology was known as nationalism. Religion demanded 10% of your wealth nationalism demanded nearly all of it. Religion asked for only a small sacrifice of the population for monasteries and church. Nationalism asked for 15% in some countries for the draft. Religion promised you an afterlife, the state offered you little more then glory. WE never saw nationalism develop as much as it could have because it was replaced so rapidly by communism.

When missionaries went around the world they sought converts of the population. When nationalism took on the sought converts provided they were willing to accept a submissive position, when communists took over they sought no converts. Often punishing the children of business owners in the countries that they enslaved. Each new ideology that took over sought less converts then the one before it. Tribalism offered man a chance to become a god, Religion offered man a chance of heaven, Nationalism offered man glory, communism offered man a chance to be a cog in the social machine. While nationalism let man have his private thoughts as long as he acted loyal. Communism demanded a total embrace of ideology. While Religion offered man solace, communism degraded his spirit, while religion offered man salvation communism only extended that offer to mankind as a whole. No god in history has demand more of his followers then the god of Marx.

So the battle between the old (nationalism) and the new (communism) was set. Well World War 2 tells us who one temporarily, but something was definitely different this time. Communism seems like it should have won, just like all the ideologies before. Well I can venture a guesses why it lost; communism was beyond self-destructive. The ideology was so utterly un-survivable that it couldn’t last an noticeable about of time except by the grace of the capitalistic countries in the world.

my beef with environmentalism part 1

Environmentalism is becoming in vogue now so I figured I might way in on it. This article might take me a while to write so I am doing it in parts. When I am finished I will put it all together into one master document.

The history of the world can be viewed as a series of great battles between various ideological foundations. At each era of mankind an old ideology waged war against a new one. Each time in history the old almost always lost to the new. The reasons why this occurred are varied sometimes the new offered a superior way to organize resources and people so it physically dominated the old. More often then not the new triumphed by a much more insidious strategy. Namely, by demanding more of the population. It was Edward Gibbon that first remarked on the tolerance of paganism. How often when a polytheistic person is confronted by a follower of a different sect he is able to prevent conflict by adding there god to the list of his own. In this way religious practices and beliefs could circulate unabated throughout the world.

This ideology of paganism was the old, the new was a gathering storm out of Israel, followers of a then unknown sect were to leap forth and take the empire by storm. So the ideologies of the old and new set out to fight. The old offering universal tolerance while the new offering a moral structure for a great deal of life’s many questions, establishing new questions in the process.

how i saved the world

I have once again proven the concept that the best way to help the world is by acting in your self-interest. You will have to bear with me on this one, try to follow along.

I have a friend lets call him J this friend of mine is a very strange fellow. Just by looking at J you can tell that he is man who sets out to look nice everything single day. A kind of man who if he was planning to work on a paint site would show up in a white starched pair of overalls. He then would spend the whole day working and not sweat and not have any paint anywhere on his clothing. You of course would and J would quickly wipe out a can of special deluxe soap that not only can remove paint for your clothing, not all could it clean off dirt when it is applied, but it wont require water. So after he wipes out this can of magical soap you will realize two things

1) This guy is always prepared for everything.
2) He is always neat and organized.

At this point you will compare yourself to him and develop a deep completely irrational hatred for him. I mean hell, this is kind of guy who if he was in New Orleans last year while your floating along on a tire through raw sewage he would come by on a motorized boat offer you a ride and explain to you how environmental friendly the boat is because its solar paneled. In short you could never ever win a battle with this man because he is so polite the only possible feelings you can have for him love or inapt anger. However, you feel about J your happy that such ultimate clean living, always prepared, and politeness powers have been given to the one man who would never you them for evil.

My wife Shira is the ultimate Mother. She can come into a bachelor pad and have it looking like it belongs in a magazine within about 15 minutes. Many times when we were dating she would rush into my apartment and help me fix whatever disaster I had created. Everything from the time my dryer wasn’t working and all I had was a bag of mildew laundry. To the times I brought several friends over at once and she was able to create a meal in 20 minutes. If you screw up your life/apartment/tax return/ laundry or any other domestic activity the first person you should call would be my wife. With an army of Shiras I could get all the Russians to quit drinking, wipe-out malaria in India, employ all the homeless in New York, and feed Ethiopia on a can of beans.

Now lets say me and Shira never dated and instead she had dated my friend J what would have happened. There first date J would get seats at the best restaurant in town, a show, and come prepared with an armful of flowers. Shira would make a 6 course dinner, rent about 20 movies so he could pick out one he liked, and would know the directions to the best coffee place in town. When they realized that they both had gotten each other dinner they would probably do something nice look give the remaining food to the homeless.

Eventually they would marry and produce happy, healthy, neat, polite, and efficient children. By the laws of genetics each of there brood would be a more concentrated version of themselves. Gradually there brood would marry others like themselves. Producing even more. Overtime there numbers would get larger then the regular population (I mean they would have to right, people like me would be to busy drinking/smoking/speeding themselves into early graves, while they with there clean living life styles would greatly out number us). Then the second stage would begin. They would never quarrel with each other so there would be no reason to move away, gradually there numbers would begin to increase to a critical mass in some region and become completely autonomous from the rest of us.

So fine you say let those people who are merely crosses between German efficiency, Italian hospitality, French cooking, American ingenuity, and British politeness live with themselves and not bother the rest of us dirty, chain-smoking, fried food eating, sports car driving, heavy metal listening people.

Such a system cant last. Gradually we will see our part of the world crumble while theirs flourishes. Then we will develop a hatred in our hearts for them. So we will declare war on them which will be our end.

While our men will be cold and wet in there poorly designed uniforms (what side do you think the fashion designers would have gone too?) There soldiers will be happily eating the lunches Shira packs for me everyday before work/school while firing non-violent but disabling rifles that J created.

Overtime our moral will crash and we will have to admit defeat. Home Sapiens as we know him would become extinct.

As you can see I saved the world.

California would become the first state to impose a limit on all greenhouse gas emissions, including those from industrial plants, under a landmark deal reached Wednesday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative Democrats.

The agreement marks a clear break with the Bush administration and puts California on a path to reducing its emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases by an estimated 25 percent by 2020.

The bill still needs lawmakers' approval, but that appears likely, given that Democrats control the Legislature.

It gives Schwarzenegger a key environmental victory as he seeks re-election this fall.

"We can now move forward with developing a market-based system that makes California a world leader in the effort to reduce carbon emissions," the governor said in a statement.

The bill would require the state's major industries _ such as utility plants, oil and gas refineries, and cement kilns _ to reduce their emissions of the pollutants widely believed to contribute to global warming.

The key mechanism driving the reductions would be a market program allowing businesses to buy, sell and trade emission credits with other companies.

The agreement came after weeks of difficult negotiations and was announced by the governor's office and Steve Maviglio, spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, a Los Angeles Democrat.

The bill was praised by environmentalists as a step toward fighting global climate change but criticized by some business leaders, who say it would increase their costs and force them to scale back their California operations.

Republicans in the Legislature say climate change should be addressed at the national level, not on a state-by-state basis.

"Adopting costly and unattainable regulations will drive businesses and jobs out of California into other states and even into other countries with no commitment to improve air quality," said Assembly Republican leader George Plescia, a LaJolla Republican.

Schwarzenegger and the Legislature's Democratic leadership have embraced a cap on vehicle and industry emissions as a way to make California a trendsetter in fighting global warming.

As some of you might remember 8/24/05 is the date I left my hometown forever and moved to the edge of western civilization namely buffalo. At that point I went from being merely Isiah Schwartz a small peasant in a rural county in our mighty empire. After, I left I became something much more, I became: Isiah of Buffalo Defender of good!! Being in which this is very close to the jewish new year and it is rightaround the time of my transformation I think it would be appropriate to list my accomplishments of the year. For all those who think i am being arrogant I have this to say "Your entitled to your opinion even through its wrong"

So my list of accomplishments are as follows:
1) Meet a girl, fell in love, and got married.
2) Made more friends then I ever had in m life.
3) Got a very nice apartment that only costs me 395 a month (utilities included)
4) Dont laugh but i learned how to ride a bike
5) Starting working on a new website about mathematics
6) finished about a 10th of a book on graph theory
7) Finally got all my paperwork in order
8) Finished about a third of my degree
9) finished my minor in mathematics
10) Set up Tom with a new job place to live etc. He owes me big! Haha
11) inadvertanly helped a friend of mine to meet the girl he is engaged too
12) tutoried several students through killer math courses
13) Got my first office job
14) Got a much better job

At current rates of growth I will have conquered the world in another 10 years or so.

For 70 years astronomers has searched for a 10th planet. Think of the time lost! Every science fair project on he solar system is offically wrong. Were going to have to track down every medal ever given to a student who made a model of the solar system and take back there medals. Every planetarium in the world, with the possible exception of north korea's planetarium which states that the only planet is earth and that the rest were illusions created by the west to demoralize the noble koreans, is offically inaccurate.

was watching animal planet today....very briefly and I saw an intresting story. Apparently Anchorage Alaska is under seige by moose. According to one study at least one third of the population has beena ttacked or felt threatened by a moose in the last year. They should footage of moose running around he city completely ignoring the people there. Now, i am willing to take a guess that this is do to some enviromental goverment policy. I know what I would do if I saw a moose, i would shot it and sell its organs to cat food companies. There is no way a population would put up with such creatures without government interference.

My proposal:
1) allow any moose to be shot if it comes within 1 mile of your property.
2) Offer small cute little american flags to anyone who kills a moose.

A federal appeals court ruled yesterday that if a motorist is carrying large sums of money, it is automatically subject to confiscation. In the case entitled, “United States of America v. $124,700 in U.S. Currency,” the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit took that amount of cash away from Emiliano Gomez Gonzolez, a man with a “lack of significant criminal history” neither accused nor convicted of any crime.

On May 28, 2003, a Nebraska state trooper signaled Gonzolez to pull over his rented Ford Taurus on Interstate 80. The trooper intended to issue a speeding ticket, but noticed the Gonzolez’s name was not on the rental contract. The trooper then proceeded to question Gonzolez — who did not speak English well — and search the car. The trooper found a cooler containing $124,700 in cash, which he confiscated. A trained drug sniffing dog barked at the rental car and the cash. For the police, this was all the evidence needed to establish a drug crime that allows the force to keep the seized money.

Associates of Gonzolez testified in court that they had pooled their life savings to purchase a refrigerated truck to start a produce business. Gonzolez flew on a one-way ticket to Chicago to buy a truck, but it had sold by the time he had arrived. Without a credit card of his own, he had a third-party rent one for him. Gonzolez hid the money in a cooler to keep it from being noticed and stolen. He was scared when the troopers began questioning him about it. There was no evidence disputing Gonzolez’s story.

Yesterday the Eighth Circuit summarily dismissed Gonzolez’s story. It overturned a lower court ruling that had found no evidence of drug activity, stating, “We respectfully disagree and reach a different conclusion… Possession of a large sum of cash is ’strong evidence’ of a connection to drug activity.”

LINYI, China, August 14, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A high ranking US official has joined in the efforts of the Bush Administration to convince China to release blind anti-forced-abortion, anti-one-child-policy activist Chen Guangcheng.

Chen was formally arrested earlier this year for his public advocacy for local victims of the forced-abortion, one-child policy in the eastern China city of Linyi, although he had already been under house arrest since August 2005.

“We believe that there has been a certain violation of normal standards and are urging China to release him from imprisonment,” said US Assistant Secretary of State Ellen Sauerbrey, who heads the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.

She says she brought the issue of Chen Guangcheng up during a meeting of the China-U.S. Global Issues Forum

“For China’s own reputation,” Sauerbrey said, “our hope is just that if we keep a focus on the issue, that China will recognize that it is in their best interest to release this gentleman from jail.”

According to Chen’s wife, Yuan Weijing, two US diplomats who had attempted to investigate the issue earlier in the year in May were forcibly removed from the village.

“There isn’t much hope,” she has been quoted as saying about Guangcheng’s predicament. Speaking by telephone from the family farmhouse, where she had been detained, Weijing told the Washington Post in July, “Everything that has happened runs counter to [Chinese President] Hu Jintao’s talk of democracy and governing by law. We live in a nation without law, a nation without morality.”

A couple in Brussels has been threatened with criminal neglect for schooling their children at home, and a U.S. expert on the issue told WorldNetDaily the case actually could pose a threat to the sovereignty of the U.S. Constitution.

That's because if the basis for the legal arguments being made by Belgian prosecutors ever were accepted in – or imposed upon -- the United States, that fact would make the U.N. protocol equal to the Constitution.

In the case at hand, Alexandra Cohen has published a piece on the Brussels Journal website that her husband, Paul Belien, the website editor, was called to police headquarters, questioned, and threatened with criminal negligence counts because their children are homeschooled.

"He was told that the Belgian authorities are of the opinion that, as a homeschooler, he has not adequately educated his children and, hence, is neglecting his duty as a parent, which is a criminal offense," she wrote.

What terrifies U.S. homeschool education experts is the authorities' decision to cite the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as a legal argument.

That 1990s-era document was ratified quickly by 192 nations worldwide, but not the United States or Somalia. In Somalia, there was then no recognized government to do the formal recognition, and in the United States there's been opposition to its power.

"(The treaty) would become the supreme law of the land," Chris Klicka, the senior counsel for the Home School Legal Defense Association, told WND. In conflicts with the Constitution, the treaty easily could prevail, he said.

"Our worst fears are being realized as we see these other European countries feeling the pressure because they did sign on and enter into this treaty," he said. "Britain, for instance, had a report done by the (U.N.) Committee of 10 and they got chastised because they were allowing corporal punishment."

Although signed under the Clinton Administration, the U.S. Senate never has ratified the treaty, largely because of conservatives' efforts to point out it would create that list of rights which primarily would be enforced against parents.

The Convention is an international treaty that creates specific civil, economic, social, cultural and even economic rights for every child. It is monitored by the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child, which conceivably has enforcement powers.

Under the U.N. protocol, a child could have an abortion without telling her parents, while at the same time forcing them to pay for it. A generic description of the treaty calls it "child-centric." But Klicka's HSLDA is more specific.

The U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause requires that "all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land," the HSLDA said.

That would mean any state law relating to child custody, the family, education, adoption, child pornography and dozens of other issues could be nullified in an instant, the group said.

Under the protocol, children would be vested with freedom of expression, so that "any attempts (by parents) to prevent their children from interacting with material parents deem unacceptable is forbidden."

Reaching to the far end of that logic would produce this result: your 6-year-old wants Playboy magazine, or even to visit a Playboy club, and you pay for it.

Parents who fail would be subjected to "identification, reporting, referral, investigation, treatment, and follow-up."

Klicka said the HSLDA is not directly involved in the Brussels case, although he has contacted the couple's legal counsel and has offered assistance if needed.

In the report by Cohen, she said the couple's four oldest children were homeschooled, and have moved on to the university level.

"Our youngest child is also being homeschooled, but she has yet to obtain her high school certificate, for which she is currently taking exams," she said. Those exams will be taken before the nation's Central Examination Board, of the Ministry of Education.

"The Belgian Constitution, written in 1831, allows parents to homeschool," she wrote. "The CEB exists to enable people who have not attended or who have failed school to obtain an official high school certificate."

The number of homeschooled students in Belgium, although small in number at about 500, has quadrupled in the past five years "as parents are seceding from the official schools where drugs and violence are rampant and pupils are indoctrinated with political correctness," she wrote.

That, she said, "clearly bothers the authorities," who recently introduced a legislative plan that cites the U.N. protocol and obliges homeschooling parents to sign "an official 'declaration of homeschooling' in which they agree to school their children 'respecting the respect (sic) for the fundamental human rights and the cultural values of the child itself and others.'"

She and her husband refused, and now the Ministry of Education believes they have violated the law, she said.

The only response from the Minister of Education, Frank Vandenbroucke, came through a spokesman who said in a local newspaper that in Belgium homeschoolers are required to sign a document that requires them to follow the protocols of the U.N. Convention.

"These parents have not done this. This is why the ministry has started an inquiry," he said.

Klicka noted that even if the Senate never ratifies the protocol, it could be dumped on the United States by the ruling of an activist judge.

"The fact that virtually every other nation in the world has adopted it has made it part of customary international law, and it means that it should be considered part of American jurisprudence," Cohen wrote.

In an earlier critique, HSLDA's chairman and general counsel, Michael Farris, noted the protocol essentially would move any rights that parents now have to social workers, who could make any decision concerning children – and force compliance.

Three men were arrested Friday on charges of supporting terrorism after they purchased 80 prepaid mobile phones from a Wal-Mart store, police said.

The men, all from the Dallas area, were being held on charges of soliciting or providing material support for terrorism and obtaining information of a vulnerable target for the purposes of terrorism, police Sgt. Dale Stevenson said. They told investigators they planned to resell the phones to a wholesaler for profit, police said.

Stevenson declined to elaborate on how the case relates to terrorism. Telephone messages were left Friday with the Tuscola County prosecutor's office and the FBI, which assisted with the investigation.

The men, ages 18, 22 and 23, were being held in Tuscola County Jail and scheduled to be arraigned Saturday.

Stevenson said the men went to a 24-hour Wal-Mart store in Caro early Friday and bought the cell phones despite a store policy limiting customers to three phones per purchase. A Wal-Mart clerk who thought the purchases were suspicious alerted police.

"They target these stores late, in the morning, hoping to get an inexperienced clerk," Stevenson said.

Police stopped the men's van about 1:30 a.m. and found nearly 1,000 phones, most of which were prepaid TracFones, along with a laptop computer and a bag of receipts, Stevenson said.

Pupils in British schools could soon be taught about the EU, with all references to Britain dropped under new plans for the education system revealed by the government. Teachers have already been given guidelines by the government to teach their pupils about the structure of the EU in citizenship classes.

The proposed changes come after Europe Minister Geoff Hoon advised the government to be more inclusive of the EU in the National Curriculum. Concerned by what he described as the indifference by children towards the EU, Minister Hoon in a letter to Education Secretary Alan Johnson, explained that British youngsters should be taught how the EU works, and its benefits such as cheap travel and free trade.
However, the plans have come under attack from he Conservative Party and the anti-EU United Kingdom Independence Party who described it as “foisting EU propaganda on impressionable youngsters.” The National Union of teachers also criticised the plans, which they called “contrary to the chancellors (earlier) plans to teach Britishness.”

In short british blogs blog with brits, American trolls Aim at Americans, and australians keep to themselfs. Which goes to show you that the American, english, irish, canadian, australian, new zealanders are a common people separated by a different language.

In order to bring about better realations with our neighbors I suggest that every american blogger get a english speaking non-american blogger friend (canadians dont count; I think you all know why). Maybe with time the healing can begin.

UN peacekeepers abandoned babies

UN peacekeepers have abandoned at least 20 babies fathered with poverty-stricken Timorese women, an investigation has shown.

The UN investigation has also uncovered a culture of cover-up, in which babies born to peacekeepers and sex crimes committed by its personnel over seven years have been kept secret because of a "fear of shame and embarrassment".

A report on the investigation recommends that a policy of zero tolerance of sexual misconduct be enforced on UN staff.

The report reveals for the first time babies born to UN peacekeepers have been abandoned without financial support.

Their mothers have been stigmatised and in some cases ostracised by their communities.

Efforts by the UN to organise assistance for the women have failed.

Israel rejected the allegations from the independent experts on the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination for lacking objectivity by failing to address Hezbollah’s behavior.

The sole American on the panel, Ralph Boyd, Jr., said the committee also needed to address the actions of other parties playing a role in the conflict — a clear reference to Hezbollah, Iran and Syria.

About 650 French Jews emigrated to Israel this week, the biggest such move since 1970, braving the war and adding to their exodus from France.

The departure of 530 Jews from Paris and about 120 from Marseille on July 25 brings the total number leaving France this year to more than 3,500, the highest in 35 years. Last year, 3,005 left France for their ``aliyah,'' or immigration to the Land of Israel, 25 percent more than the year before, according to Jerusalem-based Jewish Agency, a not-for-profit association.

The immigration reflects not only an escape from anti- semitic acts in France, home to both the largest Jewish and Muslim populations in Europe, but is also prompted by a Zionist imperative, Roger Cukierman, the president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, or CRIF, France's biggest Jewish group, said in a telephone interview.

``They know they are going to a country that's at war,'' Cukierman said. ``It's clear that anti-semitic acts are part of their decision, but the main cause of this emigration is to follow the path of Zionism.''

Israel has encouraged such immigration, struggling to balance out the country's demographics in the face of a rapidly growing Arab population. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport to receive the French arrivals even as Israeli forces fought Hezbollah gunmen in a third week of hostilities that have left more than 392 Lebanese and 41 Israelis dead.

``Israel has a secret weapon, which is the people of Israel,'' Olmert said as he greeted the new arrivals, according to Arutz Sheva News Service. ``It will not be easy for you.''

`Strategic Move'

The aliyah is part of a strategic move by Israel to attract as many Jews as possible, Cukierman said. ``The more population the state will bring in to face a hostile Arab environment, the better Israel will be protected,'' he said.

Israel's immigration program helps balance its deficit in population growth compared to that of its Arab neighbors. With almost 6.4 million inhabitants and a population growth of 1.18 percent a year, it runs behind Gaza Strip's expansion of 3.71 percent annually or the West bank's 3.06 percent, according to 2006 figures published on the Central Intelligence Agency World's Factbook web site. The two territories together have more than 3.94 million inhabitants, the CIA says.

France has almost 600,000 Jews, or 1 percent of the population. The country's first aliyah wave was in the late 19th century and then after the Second World War.

Anti-Semitism

France ranks third in countries sending people for their aliyah, behind the former Soviet Union, with almost 10,000 every year, and Ethiopia, with children of Falasha, or Jews from the African community. The U.S. ranks fourth.

French emigration has been prompted at least in part by anti-semitic acts in the country, CRIF says. In February, a gang kidnapped, tortured and murdered Ilan Halimi, a young Parisian Jew, sparking outrage across France and leading hundreds of Jews to march in the capital to demand justice. The French Interior Ministry says there were 504 physical and verbal anti-semitic attacks in 2005, down from 974 in 2004. CRIF says violence against Jews rose again in the first half of 2006, notably after the arrest of Halimi's alleged murderers.

I cannot help but ask, why do these sponsors of terrorism, why do not the governments that harbor them step up and stop this crisis? Iran and Syria provide $100 million a year it is estimated to Hezbollah. In addition to shipments of rockets, small arms, cruise missiles and other munitions. And let us be clear about the intentions of Hezbollah. Just last year, Hassan Nasrallah stated this, and I quote: "Israel is our enemy. This is an aggressive, illegal and illegitimate entity which has no future in our land. Its destiny is manifested in our motto: Death to Israel." And Hamas, through its charter, pledges this: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam obliterates it. Just as it has obliterated others before. " Now these intentions make one thing abundantly clear: Israel is not fighting just to protect its citizens. It is fighting to secure its borders, it is fighting for its very existence. SEATTLE - The man suspected in a fatal shooting rampage hid behind a potted plant in a Jewish charity’s foyer and forced his way through a security door by holding a gun to a 13-year-old girl’s head, authorities said Saturday.

Once inside, police say, Naveed Afzal Haq opened fire with two semiautomatic pistols. One woman, Pam Waechter, 58, of Seattle was killed at the scene. Five more women were wounded.

Haq, 30, was ordered held on $50 million bail Saturday pending formal charges of murder and attempted murder. Haq, a Muslim, told authorities he was angered by the war in Iraq and U.S. military cooperation with Israel.

“He pointedly blamed Jewish people for all of these problems,” Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske said at a news conference Saturday.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United Nations Human Rights Committee on Friday urged U.S. lawmakers to give the District of Columbia a voting member of Congress, saying the lack of such representation appeared inconsistent with international law.

The rebuke came in a report released by the committee in Geneva on Friday which said residents of the U.S. capital deserved to take part in government affairs directly or through freely chosen representatives under the 1992 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The District of Columbia has been without a voting member of Congress since its founding as the national capital in 1790 because it was specified by U.S. Constitution as a federal district that was not part of any state.

D.C. residents were not allowed to vote in presidential elections until 1961, when a constitutional amendment was ratified
